✶ Stone notes

Reds and oranges

Brick, rust, orange-red and salmon — warm from across the room, old from up close.

Warm stone reads from a distance in a way no other colour does. Brick red especially: it looks warm from across a room and looks old from a foot away, which is a strange and good combination in something you are wearing to work.

A little of it goes a long way, so the reds tend to end up in the small pieces — a bead set into a ring, a short teardrop, two red beads offset on a bend of wire. You can wear red on your hand on a plain day without building an outfit around it, and that is most of the appeal.

Orange in particular is the colour people pick up when they want to feel started rather than finished. Not celebratory. Closer to the feeling of having finally opened the thing you have been avoiding.

This page describes colour and form and doesn't name a stone. Here's why that is, and the rest of the notes are there too.
