✶ Stone notes

Glass

Some of it is glass, and the listing says so — glossy the way glass is glossy, not pretending to be anything else.

Some pieces here are set with glass rather than stone, and where that is obvious it gets said plainly. It is glossy in a way stone is not, the colour runs dead even all the way through, and patterns get set into it that no stone would ever produce — tiny pale flowers scattered across a deep red face, for instance.

That evenness is the argument for it. A stone is mottled, veined and slightly uncooperative, which is usually the point; glass is the opposite, and if you want one strong flat colour on your hand there is nothing that does it better.

Practical note: glass chips where stone would scuff. A knock against a doorframe that a rough stone shrugs off can take a corner off a glass piece, so these are better on the days you are not carrying boxes.

This page describes colour and form and doesn't name a stone. Here's why that is, and the rest of the notes are there too.
