Clear and colourless
Nothing to interpret, nothing to match — the stone that takes the light instead of holding a colour.
A colourless stone is the one piece in a stack that has no opinion. It does not have to go with the colour of anything else you own, which makes it the easiest thing to buy for somebody whose taste you do not know well, and the easiest thing to reach for on a morning when you have already made enough decisions.
It is also the natural layering piece. Wear it short over a longer coloured pendant and it reads as light rather than as a second colour, which is why these end up on the same chain as everything else in the shop.
Faint marks inside a clear stone are not a fault. A wisp, a fracture that catches the light, a thread of colour near the tip — that is the inside of the material, and it is the part a photograph can never quite show you.
